The Wood-Based Composite Center (WBC) is a research cooperative that advances the fundamental science and education in wood-based composites. Our research program is based on a planning cycle. Based on this planning process, every Spring we expect to have graduate research assistantship (GRA) opportunities at any of our research sites.

Scope of Research/Field of Study
Modeling of Edge Bending for Mass Timber Products.
Essential Functions
- Review the state-of-the-art,
- plan and conduct experimental research,
- collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data,
- collaborate in the development of a numerical model,
- co-author related reports, presentations & publications)
Qualifications
- Candidate must enroll as an MS or Ph.D. degree student at Oregon State University with a major in Wood Science.
- Successful candidates at the MS/Ph.D level must have an equivalent degree in one of the following fields (a combination with a related BS degree will be a plus):
- wood science,
- industrial engineering,
- civil engineering,
- mechanical engineering,
- chemical engineering,
- materials science,
- or closely related field.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
- For applicants who attended school outside of the U.S., an English language proficiency test is required (TOEFL or IELTS). For the TOEFL, the Department recommends 93 on the iBT TOEFL test, with all sub-scores on the iBT being at least a score of 18 or above. - Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Basic skills in programming
- Basic command of the German language (reading/reviewing technical literature)
Tuition and Stipend
The stipend is classified as 0.49 FTE (full-time equivalent). Tuition is paid by OSU. The annual stipend is approximately $27,000 for an 0.49 FTE, based on the degree pursued. The position provides paid tuition, paid matriculation fee, coverage of up to 90% of student fees, and provides a health insurance plan. The position requires a minimum of 20 hours per week for research support, with the remaining time devoted to academic studies.
